meet Courtney Delks

Courtney Delks hails from Sweetser, Indiana, and is recognized as one of the most accomplished athletes to emerge from Grant County. A versatile multi-sport competitor from a young age, Courtney excelled in basketball, baseball (with boys), soccer, track, and cross country. Starting at age 9, she and her family traveled across the country during summers, competing in basketball tournaments and honing her skills against top talent.

Despite being told early on that her height might limit her basketball potential, Courtney’s determination and relentless work ethic defied expectations. Throughout her youth, she was often one of the shortest players on the court but consistently outperformed larger opponents through skill, effort, and fearless competition.

Early Training & Dedication
Courtney's passion for basketball was evident in her daily routines. She spent countless hours on her family's driveway—dribbling, shooting, and conditioning—often writing her training plans on index cards and tracking her progress with chalk marks on the driveway. Her perseverance was exemplified by her ability to stand fearlessly among older players during her early training.

High School Achievements
At Oak Hill High School, Courtney led the Golden Eagles to a record of 97-9 over four years, including two appearances in the state finals. Though she didn’t win a state championship, her resilience propelled her to earn All-State honors and Indiana Miss Basketball in 2010. As a senior, she averaged an impressive 31.7 points per game, leading the state in scoring. She also contributed 4.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 5.0 steals per game, demonstrating her all-around game, shooting 55% from the field, 42% from three, and 91% from free throws. Courtney holds 27 school records for career, season, and game milestones.

Collegiate Basketball Success
Courtney continued her basketball career at Purdue University, where she finished eighth in all-time scoring (1,674 points). She set program records for three-pointers made (240) and free-throw percentage (90.6%), and ranked fourth in three-point percentage (39.7%). She earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and was instrumental in Purdue’s back-to-back Big Ten Tournament championships and NCAA tournament appearances. Notably, she set an NCAA Tournament record with nine three-pointers made in a single game, which Caitlin Clark tied in her historic senior season at Iowa.

Beyond College
Following her college career, Courtney chose to stay in the United States to pursue basketball opportunities. She engaged with the Indiana Fever, participating in coaches’ meetings, assisting in practices, and serving on the scout team, gaining invaluable insight into professional-level operations. Courtney also contributed to Indiana Wesleyan University’s women’s basketball program and spent time as head coach of Marion High School girls’ basketball team.

Entrepreneurship and Training
In 2015, Courtney partnered with her husband to launch Compete Training Academy, helping players of all ages develop their skills and mindset. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes perseverance, work ethic, and love for the game—values she embodies both on and off the court.

Personal Life
Courtney is a wife and mother, dedicated to inspiring the next generation of athletes. Outside of basketball, she enjoys spending time outdoors and reading, but her true passion remains helping others achieve their full potential through disciplined, intentional practice.
